Cross Country
On Thursday we went out for the cross country at 1:15. We saw the whole school there, right at the front field. I was wondering where we had to sit and that second I saw Alex so I just followed him, but he didn’t know where our class was either. Eventually we found our way to the tarpaulins.
First we saw the year six girls and Dave lined up. Dave is the person who has two blocks of wood and he quickly smashes them to say when it’s time to run. After four races it finally came up to my group, the year four boys. When Dave smashed the blocks together everyone quickly ran as fast as we could. We had to get a good start to run on the outside of the front field but nothing was going to stop me from being in the lead. Alex was just in front of me when we came out of the playground.
Right at the end Alex and I were rushing as fast as we could to the finish line but he just beat me. I want to do cross country again.

Kangaroos
Kangaroos are not mammals they are marsupials. When marsupials are born they have to climb up into their mother’s pouch and they’re only the size of a jellybean. When they’re five months old they’re allowed to stick their heads outside of their mother’s pouch and when they’re six months old they can hop out of their mother’s pouch. If they go too far it is very dangerous so their mother calls them back.
When kangaroos are in a mob one of the strongest kangaroos is the head of the mob but sometimes another kangaroo challenges him because he wants to be the boss. When they fight, the kangaroos punch, scratch and kick. When dingoes chase the mother with its joey in their pouch the mother drops the joey in a safe place because they are too heavy.

The Wreck of the Delaware
On a stormy and very rainy day the
Just at that time, Huria Matenga opened her curtains. She saw Henry Squirrell crashing against the rocks. She quickll ran to tell her husband Hemi and Hohepata, their friend. They got a rope and tied it to a rock and to the ship so everyone could climb across the rope and then to shore. In the meantime the sailors were trying to help Henry Squirrell but they couldn’t so they laid him in the bunk by himself.
A couple of minutes later Huria and Hemi were swimming in the fierce waves.

How the Kiwi Lost its Wings
Tane Mahuta had to ask Cuckoo to live on the forest floor.
“Sorry Tane. I’m building a nest. I can’t leave it.”
After, Tane asked Morepork.
He said, “I love the light. I can’t go on the dark forest floor.”
Then Tane asked Tui and he said, “I’m afraid of what enemies I’ll have.”
“Pukeko, will you?”
“No Tane. I like to keep my feet fry.”
Finally he asked Kiwi. “Yes Tane, I will.”
After, Tane Mahuta said to Morepork, “You will never live in the light. You will always fly to the darkest places in the forest.”
“Tui, you will always heve the mark of the coward.”
“Pukeko, you like to keep your feet dry. From now you will live in the swamp and get your feet wet.”
“Kiwi, you did a good thing but you will lose your beautiful colours.
From that day kiwi still stays on the ground.
